Video Captions Benefit Everyone.
Video captions, also known as same-language subtitles, benefit everyone who watches videos (children, adolescents, college students, and adults). More than 100 empirical studies document that captioning a video improves comprehension of, attention to, and memory for the video. Captions are particularly beneficial for persons watching videos in their non-native language, for children and adults ...
متن کاملCan Everyone Benefit from Social Integration?
We study the integration of stable marriage problems (SMPs) of equal sizes into an extended society. We show that it is impossible to make every agent weakly better off by merging all SMPs if the matching that occurs before and after integration is stable. We show that integration always weakly benefits at least one-half of the society, which implies that it can be implemented by majority votin...
متن کاملVideo Event Detection by Exploiting Word Dependencies from Image Captions
Video event detection is a challenging problem in information and multimedia retrieval. Different from single action detection, event detection requires a richer level of semantic information from video. In order to overcome this challenge, existing solutions often represent videos using high level features such as concepts. However, concept-based representation can be confusing because it does...
متن کاملNews Video Classi cation based on Semantic Attributes of Captions
As a basis for automatic indexing to video data based on shot classi cation, we will present a graphical classi cation rule acquisition method based on semantics of accompanying natural language data i.e. captions. A preliminary experiment to actual television news programs showed good correspondence between graphical characteristics and semantic attributes of captions.

We report the high frequency performance of GaAs/AlGaAs multiple quantum well (MQW) based AsymmetricFabry Perot (ASFP) reflection modulator. The measured frequency response bandwidth of the modulator was ~600 MHz at an applied voltage of only 5 V at a wavelength of ~ 854 nm. The differential contrast of the modula-tor was 4.0 at an applied voltage of 12.5 at a wavelength of 863 nm.
